Director general of the industry body Tony Vine-Lott suggested that such products can often be overlooked in the savings sector but they are open to everyone.
His comments follow research by TISA that indicated that the first quarter of 2010 saw an increase in active monthly direct debits for CTFs, as well as £13 million being deposited in lump sums.
Mr Vine-Lott remarked: "This survey covers the Christmas period and the large uplift in lump sum contributions is an indication that parents have saved presents of money into their child's CTF."
He recently responded to the government's budget proposals by saying that rise in Isa subscription limits is "good news" for savers and represents a recognition of the role such financial products play in people's lives.
