1 in 20 consider false insurance claim, says moneysupermarket.com

Comparison site moneysupermarket.com has described the situation as worrying after a poll showed that six per cent of people in Britain would consider making a false claim on a home insurance policy.

Julie Owens, head of home insurance at the company, pointed out that recession-hit Brits cannot resort to breaking the law to make ends meet.

She stated: "No matter how tempting, fabricating a claim for a pay out is not only wholly inadvisable but it is also illegal, and you could face being prosecuted as a result."

In her view, home insurance is there to provide cover in case of any accidents and people should not be afraid to make a claim even if it does result in their premium going up slightly.

According to moneysupermarket.com, householders should be wary of taking on monthly instalments for paying for their home insurance policy, as providers can charge up to 22 per cent more for this.
