Aviva to offer fairer insurance premiums with new technology

New technology being used by Aviva could give people a fairer premium as the company will be able to judge the risk of flooding in specific areas.

The firm has partnered with hydrologists JBA Consulting to create a model that simulates the physical landscape in the UK and then tested it to see which parts of the country are in more danger of succumbing to water problems.

Head of flood mapping at Aviva Simon Black claimed that the map and all the data collected alongside it will allow the firm to better help its customers, as well as offer the public the right price for insurance in the place where they live.

"So continued investment in flood technology, that recognises this increasing peril, enables us to gain more clarity and insight into who is a risk and who is not," explained Mr Black.

The firm recently advised commercial property owners to check the sum that they are insured by on an asset, since they could be putting their investments at risk.
