Isa providers cheating customers, says Save Our Savers

Isa providers have been accused of "cheating" customers by one campaign group.

Save Our Savers spokesperson Reverend John Strain stated that the organisations are "not offering the equivalent of their leading non-Isa savings rate topped up by the tax breaks offered by the government" and said current government policy is not addressing this problem.

The action group has begun a new initiative challenging individual parties and candidates to clarify their policies on savings ahead of the general election.

Revd Strain claimed that saving is crucial to the success of the UK economy, but explained that while the three main political parties all make reference to it in their manifestos, these are merely "gestures" rather than solid commitments to implement change.

Earlier this week, Save Our Savers published a report claiming consumers were uniting behind its campaign.

One in five were said to be unwilling to vote for candidates without a clear savings policy, while 45 per cent wanted to see full explanations of party stances within their manifestos.
