Hiscox download insurance highlighted by monesupermarket.com

Hiscox download insurance has been put in the spotlight by one price comparison website, which suggested consumers with lots of digital content may wish to consider this type of specialist cover provider.

A survey by moneysupermarket.com revealed that on average individuals in the UK have around £1,200 of digital downloads in the home - but 70 per cent of contents insurance policies do not cover it.

Julie Owens, the website's head of home insurance, advised people to check whether they are covered against this type of loss and warned of the dangers of being underinsured.

"For Brits with an especially high value of digital content, it may be worth considering cover from a specialist provider; Hiscox for example will insure up to £2,500 worth of downloaded material," she remarked.

Last week, Ms Owens's company revealed that 2.4 million British citizens - approximately six per cent - would consider making a fake home insurance claim.
