Alliance and Leicester current accounts offer £100 bonus

Savers hoping to make the most of their current accounts during the period of low interest rates could be interested in a new deal from Alliance and Leicester.

The financial group is offering new customers who open a Premier Current Account a welcome present of £100 to get them started with their nest egg and to counteract the poor rates being offered on the high street.

Alliance and Leicester believe that many Brits are missing out on good savings deals because seven in ten have not switched their main current account since 2000, despite major changes in the economy.

Helen Bierton, head of current accounts for Santander's UK brands, said: "The launch of the £100 cash bonus offer is good news for customers who are looking to make the most of their money in these difficult times."

Fellow Santander subsidiary Abbey recently offered new customers a 50 per cent reduction on the monthly fee linked to its Reward Bank Account, which cost £5 every three months.
