Barclays applauds investors for using Isas early

Taking full advantage of Isas early on in the tax year is a good decision, according to a representative from Barclays Stockbrokers, who also noted that many investors are taking more risks to generate higher returns.

Barbara-Ann King, head of investments at the firm, explained that people are making such choices because interest rates continue to sit so low.

She noted that it is very encouraging to see the company's customers are using up their whole Isa allowance early on, with research from the organisation showing that 89 per cent of investors that signed up to the Barclays Stockbrokers Investment Isa in 2009/10 contributed the maximum possible.

"By investing at the start of the tax year, investors may benefit from an extra year of tax free growth, compared to someone investing at the last minute," Ms King remarked.

Recent figures published by Barclays Wealth indicated that 71 per cent of its customers plan to make full use of their allowance this tax year.
