Santander credit cards: £10.45bn spent annually on weddings

Each year Brits fork out around £10.45 billion pounds on weddings, according to Santander credit cards.

This year, the average guest at a wedding will spend £380, after things such as buying a present, picking up a new outfit and childcare costs are all taken into account.

Travelling to the location and paying for overnight accommodation came out as being the biggest expense for people attending someone else's big day, with it coming in at an average of £210.

Emma Roberts, director of Santander Cards, commented: "The last thing people want to be thinking about when preparing for a loved one's wedding is the expense involved, but costs can quickly mount up."

For those who are looking to save some money, Santander has issued a fixed rate bond with 3.5 per cent gross AER that is available for terms of one year, 18 months and two years and can be opened with a £1 deposit.
