Financial Ombudsman Service highlights right to complain

People in rural areas need to be aware of their right to complain if they are mistreated by a financial institution, says the Financial Ombudsman Service.

A spokesperson from the organisation pointed out that individuals in rural communities tend to know less about their rights in this area.

She noted that the Financial Ombudsman Service has a commitment to informing people about their right to complain and carries out a lot of outreach work to raise awareness.

"The ombudsman service works closely with front-line consumer advice agencies and charities across the UK, but recognises that in some areas people have more limited access to these networks," the spokesperson added.

Her comments were made in response to the publication of the April/May issue of Ombudsman News, which showed that people living in isolated locations, often with poorer access to the internet, have lower levels of awareness of their right to complain.

Another issue that is not understood as well in rural areas is the role of the ombudsman.
