Investors 'currently being cautious'

A recent trend has made many people prioritise the safety of their investments over the returns they receive, but some are still forced to take risks, according to one industry expert.

Senior investment advisor at Bestinvest Adrian Lowcock noted that it will be the people who have been stung on risky products over the last few years that will be erring on the side of caution.

In contrast, there are plenty of other people who need to make an income for whatever reason and are forced to take on the lack of safety in order to get a satisfactory return from their savings.

Mr Lowcock remarked: "The event in the market last week with Greece and the stock market falls will probably bring it home a little bit that things can be a bit risky and things can move quite quickly."

His comments were made following research by the Fair Investment Company, which indicated that 61 per cent of investors polled see safety as the most important factor in their investment strategies.
