Which? insurance reveals need for travel agent training

Travel agents must be given extra training if they are selling customers over-priced cover, according to a spokesperson for Which? insurance.

Rochelle Turner, head of research at the firm's holiday division, suggested such travel advisors should stop selling policies altogether if they cannot offer people the most competitive rates.

She explained customers want to feel like they have bought the right insurance policy for their trip and travel agents may need more training to ensure this is the case.

Ms Turner remarked: "Not surprisingly, you expect travel agents to be experts in all aspects of booking a holiday, but our research shows that's not always the case when it comes to insurance."

Her comments follow research by Which? showing that many individuals are being offered unsuitable policies, with one provider recommending a product that was over £60 more than the firm's best-buy price of £20.

The company recently claimed too many legitimate complaints against financial services institutions are being dismissed.
