Saga Annuity Service 'could help secure the best deal'

Consumers may benefit from utilising the Saga Annuity Service, according to the financial services provider, with a considerable amount of money there to be gained.

This is the view of chief operating officer of the firm Ali Crossley, who urged people reaching retirement to look around for the best deal in order to ensure they are receiving the highest income possible.

The organisation announced that individuals who signed up to the Saga Annuity Service since the end of last year have benefited from close to £2 million extra to their income in total.

She added: "Figures show that only two fifths of people take advantage of the open market option when buying their annuity."

In her view, a "considerable amount of money" is being missed out on by retirees who choose not to shop around for an annuity.

This week, the company revealed that over-50s are continuing to make home improvements in spite of the economic climate, with 24 per cent opting to carry out the jobs themselves.
