M&S Money: Insurance 'a priority' for fans heading to the World Cup

Football fans travelling to South Africa for the Fifa World Cup should treat taking out an insurance policy as one of their priorities as they prepare to head out there, according to a Marks & Spencer (M&S) Money representative.

Head of general insurance at the firm Andrew Ferguson pointed out that being covered can offer a degree of financial support in case of an unexpected incident during the trip.

He commented: "Tickets for the matches will no doubt be hot property, but fans should also think about what they would do if the worst happens."

M&S Money insurance suggested people should not wait until the last minute to purchase their travel insurance and would be wise to treat such a product on the same level of importance as plane tickets and hotel bookings.

This week, the same firm highlighted the importance of checking car insurance policies before driving on the continent, since some deals do not cover EU travel.
