Head of travel insurance at the company Nikki Sellers pointed out that this is the sort of pre-holiday check that often gets forgotten in all the excitement of preparing for a trip.
She explained there are many things that can go wrong on a holiday, but not being allowed entry to a country due to an invalid passport is something that can be avoided.
"It's vital to plan ahead and read the travel insurance documents thoroughly to make sure you're covered should anything unfortunate, such as a flight cancellation or baggage loss, occur," remarked Ms Sellers.
Several insurance firms have recently released advice for fans travelling to South Africa for the Fifa World Cup regarding the 5,000 SA rand (£450) cash limit they are allowed to bring into the country.
