Parents putting children at risk, says Co-operative Insurance

Many parents are invalidating their children's car insurance through illegal fronting and most would be prepared to do it.

This is according to new research by the Co-operative Insurance, which found that more than 40 per cent of parents are engaging in the practice and 61 per cent would do it in the future, even though 57 per cent know that it is illegal.

Fronting is when higher risk motorists, who would incur costlier insurance, are put on a policy as a named driver but are really the main users of the car.

People found guilty of fronting could have their car insurance made void and even be prosecuted.

Tim Franklin of the Co-operative Financial Services warned against fronting but also called for fair prices for car insurance for young people.

The Co-operative was recently named the most sustainable bank in the world by the Financial Times.

It saw off competition from other major institutions such as HSBC.
