Kevin Mountford, head of banking and credit cards at the price comparison site, claimed that rewards appear to be back "in vogue" currently among providers and this one from Egg appears to be worthwhile for many people.
He suggested that individuals check the list of retailers offering discounts using this card before signing up, to see if they would benefit.
But Mr Mountford warned: "This card is either for spending and taking advantage of the rewards or it's for saving money using the zero per cent balance transfer element. It's absolutely not for both."
In his view, the Egg Visa Card holds a good balance transfer period, but this can be negated if people use it for purchases as well, due to the negative payment hierarchy in place.
Head of Egg Cards Harald Schneider recently lauded the purchase protection that the new card offers.
