Spread the risk, says Aviva pensions

Aviva pensions has advised people not to rely solely on property to provide an income on retirement.

Head of pensions at the firm Paul Goodwin made his remarks after the organisation found that 47 per cent of parents believe saving into a pension should be a priority for their children.

He said: "Relying solely on property is a risk and it's far more sensible to spread your savings for the future in both your home and a pension plan."

Mr Goodwin noted that individuals often put off saving until later in their lives, but it is important to get started right away.

In his view, having an efficient saving strategy could mean that people can afford to live the lifestyle that they want when they come to retire.

Aviva recently announced that it would be providing new parents with a year's worth of free life cover, which it claimed should give them peace of mind.
