Sainsbury's Finance advises football fans to be wary of travel spend

Football fans planning to stay in South Africa for the duration of England's World Cup adventure are likely to face a sizeable bill, Sainsbury's Finance has warned.

Research from the company shows that following England all the way to the final - should Fabio Capello's side make it that far - will cost supporters more than £9,000.

This figure does not take into account the price of match tickets, but simply adds up the collective cost of flights, accommodation, travel between venues and food and drink.

Head of travel money at Sainsbury's Finance Scott Gorman commented: "The cost of a beer in South Africa may well be attractive at little over £1, but it looks like accommodation costs aren't as cheap and cheerful."

The research revealed that the average nightly price for a hotel room in one of the host cities is about £185.

Mr Gorman added that fans hoping to cheer England on to the final at Johannesburg's Soccer City stadium on July 11th will have to spend "serious amounts of cash".
