HSBC: Britons should plan for long-term financial security

HSBC has called on consumers to plan ahead to ensure they are in a strong financial position later in life.

The bank said it wants more people in the UK to take charge of their finances so they can be on a strong footing during their retirement.

HSBC suggested that consumers seek advice and look at all the options that are open to them.

David Wells, head of investments, savings and pensions at HSBC, commented: "It should come as no surprise that people are far more focused on making the right decisions during times of economic uncertainty."

The advice comes ahead of this week's emergency Budget by chancellor of the exchequer George Osborne, which is set to include details of more cuts in public spending.

This forms part of a wider strategy to reduce the UK's record budget deficit of £156 billion, which has already seen major infrastructure projects being scrapped or put on hold.
