Defaqto finds 49% of car insurance does not offer courtesy car

A study by Defaqto has found that almost half of all car insurance polices on the market do not offer a courtesy car.

Consumers who find themselves off the road because of a problem with their vehicle will find they are not given a replacement car with 49 per cent of the insurance policies that are currently available.

In addition, 28 per cent that do offer a replacement car only do so if it is selected as an optional extra at the time when the policy was first taken out.

A survey of motorists carried out with this study found that getting another car while the original vehicle is repaired is of great priority to those in the 33 to 44 years old age group, as well as to those who have children.

Another study from the group revealed that 77 per cent of travel insurance does not cover for airline failure.
