Friends Provident banking 'educates youngsters with cricket'

Children have been able to learn about cricket with Friends Provident banking services.

Friends Provident is associated with the Salisbury Cricket Festival, a programme by The Cricket Foundation, which was recently used to help educate youngsters through the sport.

The Cricket Foundation runs the Chance to Shine campaign to teach life skills to children via the game.

As a result, more than 60 children from Salisbury schools took part in the festival at South Wiltshire Cricket Club, even meeting former England golfer Graham Thorpe.

Karen Burrell of Friends Provident said that helping with cricket scoring could improve children's numeracy skills.

She added that Friends Provident banking was "honoured" to be involved with Chance to Shine.

Friends Provident recently acquired the greater part of UK life assurance business from Axa.

Its chief executive officer Trevor Matthews said that the deal would make it a dominant player within industries such as corporate pensions.
