Choose savings over convenience, says moneysupermarket.com insurance

People can save themselves money by shopping around for cover when their policy runs out, according to moneysupermarket.com insurance.

Head of home insurance at the comparison site Julie Owens explained that it may be convenient to allow a provider to automatically renew cover, but it might not be the cheapest option.

She said: "Shopping around for the best deal is quick and easy - by not doing so Brits are effectively watching their hard earned cash go down the drain."

Research by moneysupermarket.com insurance indicated that people could save up to £132 a year by looking around for a new policy rather than staying loyal to their existing provider.

Ms Owens stressed the importance of taking out a home insurance policy, pointing out that a burglary, accident or boiler breakdown can be costly.

Recently, the firm conducted a survey and found that 250,000 homes in the UK are not covered, with six per cent only having either buildings or contents insurance.
