Check travel insurance before going abroad, says Axa insurance

Axa insurance has suggested that travellers would be sensible to check their policies before they go on holiday.

The firm advised having a look at the maximum value of cover available on a travel insurance contract, since people may find that flying with electronic items takes them above this threshold.

It suggested checking home insurance policies to see if they cover personal possessions, adding: "It will mean things like your phone and laptop are protected all year round, not just on holiday."

Axa insurance noted that the single item limit on a travel policy can also be an issue, particularly if people are taking a top-of-the-range laptop that is worth a lot of money.

It can also be smart to reconsider whether certain expensive items are necessary on trips abroad, the organisation added.

Last week, the same company published research showing that the worst day of the summer to travel is September 3rd, in terms of the likelihood of having a road accident.
