Halifax aims to deliver best student bank account

Halifax has announced the launch of its latest student account, complete with a range of benefits.

With tens of thousands of young Britons gearing up to start the new university year, the high-street bank has confirmed that those signing up to its Halifax Student Current Account will be able to make use of an interest-free overdraft of up to £3,000 for up to five years.

As well as this facility, the package boasts free 24-hour telephone and banking services, a Visa debit card and a 20 per cent discount on Halifax Card Care card protection insurance.

Furthermore, students banking with the Halifax while at university will also be able to take advantage of a 25 per cent discount on AA breakdown cover and commission-free foreign currency and travellers' cheques.

Announcing the details of the new package, Ian Hallett, director of personal current accounts for the Halifax, said: "With the most generous interest free overdraft available, the potential savings over a three or four year degree are considerable."

This comes as Leeds Building Society celebrates the launch of its London Instant Access Account.
