Lying does not pay on car insurance for young drivers, says Confused.com

It is not a smart idea to lie to your insurance provider as they are likely to find out about it, according to Confused.com.

Head of motor insurance Will Thomas explained that people who do not tell the truth on their application for cover may invalidate their policy if the real situation comes to light.

He noted that this means individuals are effectively uninsured in these circumstances.

Recent research by Confused.com indicated that 32 per cent of women and 46 per cent of men have lied to their insurance providers in order to cut the cost of their premium.

"Whilst it's easy to think you will never be caught out, insurance companies are getting savvier, particularly in these hard financial times and lying is a type of fraud," added Mr Thomas.

Last week, the firm claimed that consumers could end up confused by new annual energy statements, although it accepts that Ofgem has tried to clarify such documents.
