Savings accounts provider Santander 'rewards switchers'

Santander will be offering £100 to any RBS customer who switches their savings accounts before the changes come in automatically.

New research has shown that those looking to save money through their savings accounts could switch to Santander.

According to the uSwitch.com study, some 1.8 million customers currently with RBS could save up to £100 by taking advantage of a Santander offer for swapping account providers which is running at the moment.

Santander is due to take over 318 RBS branches, which will mean that customers will automatically get their accounts switched to the new provider, but those who opt to do it early could receive a £100 reward.

Stefan Maryniak, personal finance expert at uSwitch.com, said: "We urge the 1.8 million RBS customers affected by this wholesale shift of accounts not to sit back and be transferred, but to take charge of the situation."

Comparison site moneysupermarket.com recently commented that the acquisition of RBS branches by Santander is an indication of its future growth, with the brand set to take over the high street.
