Sainsburys Insurance highlights devastation of losing a pet

It can be a devastating experience for a pet owner to lose their animal companion, noted Sainsburys Insurance.

Pet insurance manager at the firm Lucy Hunter described how emotionally awful it can be for a person if their cat or dog disappears, but she also stressed that there are several important actions to take if it happens.

In her view, by not going through with a few simple steps owners are significantly decreasing their chances of finding their furry pal, which is "alarming" to her.

Ms Hunter remarked: "The vast majority of those surveyed did not contact the police, place an advert in the local paper or put up posters in the neighbourhood."

These comments follow research by Sainsburys Insurance, which showed that about 2.88 million people in the UK have had their cat or dog go missing in the past five years.

Another worry for pet owners this summer is that there have been several reports of adder bites in Europe, according to M&S Money.
