Co-operative figures suggest increase in fixed rate mortgage applicants

The number of mortgage applications received by the Co-operative Financial Services has increased this year, with one senior staff member putting the trend down to the quality of the products on offer.

Neville Richardson, chief executive of the firm, made his comments after the organisation revealed it has experienced a 31 per cent rise in applications for mortgages in the first six months of 2010.

He said: "Throughout the credit crisis our strong financial position and responsible lending approach has attracted more and more customers to us and is an approach we will continue to build on."

In his view, the company has been able to maintain a range of competitive home finance arrangements over the past few months and this has been reflected in consumer interest.

Last week, the Co-operative Financial Services revealed that its parent company - the Co-operative Group - is funding a project in Leeds to support people who wear hearing aids.
