Nationwide savings accounts research 'difficult to judge'

It is not clear how to react to new savings accounts research by Nationwide, according to one finance expert.

Senior investment advisor at Bestinvest Adrian Lowcock made his comments after Nationwide published a study indicating that 21 per cent of consumers think they will save less in six months time than they do currently.

In his view, the removal of National Savings certificates will not have helped the situation, but he claimed that it is generally not a very inviting saving landscape for individuals.

Mr Lowcock pointed out that the figures produced by Nationwide are also tricky to interpret because Christmas is six months from when the study was carried out, when not many people are able to save cash.

He said: "It's difficult to judge in the short-term - particularly at the moment, because we're going to have a bit of a skewed summer holidays where people don't save as much."
