Fixed rate bonds provider Leeds Building Society makes charity donation

Leeds Building Society has made a donation to Marie Curie Cancer Care, which a representative from the firm has claimed could really make a difference.

Gary Brook, head of corporate communication at the company, explained that the £11,000 cheque was made from its Caring Saver account.

He described the project as "different" to the way a charity supporter might normally hand over cash, since the money comes from Leeds Building Society, with the firm handing over one per cent of the total balance held in such accounts.

"The Caring Saver is the kind of account that appeals to your head as well as your heart. It offers an attractive rate of interest whatever your investment," Mr Brook added.

According to the firm, it has given Marie Curie more than £160,000 since the initiative started.

The charity, which was established in 1948, offers free care for terminally ill patients at its hospices and with its network of Marie Curie nurses.
