Fair Investment Company notes consumer search for a high interest savings account

A finance expert from the Fair Investment Company has highlighted how hard it is currently for consumers to find a savings product that offers a decent return.

Head of pensions and investments at the firm Nick Scarrett described the current interest rates on the market as "very poor" and suggested it is logical that people are not rushing to put their money into such financial tools.

"Even the top rates aren't paying much over four per cent when you fix for five years, so it is not really surprising that savers have had enough of earning such little interest," he said.

His comments were made after research by the Fair Investment Company showed that 69 per cent of people surveyed by the firm claimed they have no intention of investing their money while the base rate stands at 0.5 per cent.

The Monetary Policy Committee will hold its next vote on September 8th to decide the level of the base rate.
