IMA calls for pension calculator user auto-enrolment

In order for people to have enough money for their retirements they need to be auto-enrolled on a scheme, according to one body.

The Investment Management Association (IMA) has called on the government to set up a scheme whereby everyone will be automatically included in a programme that will get them to save for later in life.

However, it believes that there is only one way that the government will be able to do this cost-effectively.

"We believe there is currently no alternative to NEST that can deliver the desired depth of coverage for the target market at a comparatively low cost," said Jonathan Lipkin, head of research at the IMA.

But the company added that such a scheme should not be looked upon as an alternative to a private fund.

It follows the report from Moneymaxim.co.uk that people approaching retirement need to reassess how much money they think they will have when they leave work.
