Pay car insurance for young drivers premium up front, says Confused.com

Confused.com has encouraged people purchasing car insurance for young drivers to pay their premium up front.

According to the price comparison site, drivers who spread the cost by paying in instalments often end up accruing additional charges.

Confused.com said this is just one way in which motorists can attempt to save money.

For example, it suggested that drivers check their tyre pressure, as those that are not properly inflated can lead to a car becoming less fuel-efficient.

The site also recommended that car owners try to limit the number of items they keep in their vehicle, as the extra weight can lead to more fuel being used.

Will Thomas, spokesman for Confused.com, said: "There are things that can be done to permanently lower the cost of motoring."

This comes after M&S Money warned that drivers could invalidate their car insurance by failing to take basic security measures, such as activating the alarm when leaving it unattended.
