Women with car insurance for young drivers 'becoming more savvy'

Females with car insurance for young drivers are becoming increasingly savvy about the workings of their vehicle.

According to motoring journalist Maria McCarthy, women are now highly clued up on issues such checking oil levels and changing a tyre.

This, she said, is partly down to the fact that a growing number of females are living on their own or moving around a lot because of their jobs.

Ms McCarthy said this marks a contrast with the past, when women would previously have delegated car maintenance to their brother or father.

She added that being car-savvy can be beneficial when a vehicle needs to be taken to a garage, as this can prevent drivers from being ripped off.

"Things are turning around for women," Ms McCarthy commented.

She was speaking after research by Diamond revealed that 40 per cent of female motorists know how to change a tyre, while almost three-quarters can check their car's oil and water levels.
