Which? research shows first direct savings accounts are on top

A new study has found that first direct customers are the most satisfied in the banking sector with the service they receive.

The report compiled by Which? saw the organisation top the leader board with an overall score of 82 - with the firm achieving 74 for its savings accounts, 88 for current accounts and 87 for its mortgages.

These were the highest numbers recorded by any of the institutions tested in these categories, although Smile's score of 83 for its credit card operations beat the 78 obtained by first direct.

Commenting on the figures, Which? chief executive Peter Vicary-Smith suggested the companies that performed best have done well in previous studies.

He said: "Whether it's a current account, mortgage, credit card or savings account, we consistently see the same names keeping their customers happy."

Last week, the consumer watchdog advised the public to shop around for their car insurance policy, since people could save an average of £58.
