Tips from moneysupermarket.com to avoid needing debt relief

Price comparison site moneysupermarket.com has noted that Christmas is just around the corner and has offered a range of tips to help people steer clear of debt.

Consumers are advised to set a budget and then stick to it, since it is all too easy to get caught up in the fun of festive shopping.

With regards to borrowing, moneysupermarket.com urged people to avoid store cards and opt for a zero per cent credit card, or shop around for a loan at a competitive rate.

Kevin Mountford, head of banking at the firm, said: "Many fail to plan for Christmas and end up carrying their funding problems into the New Year as they franticly chase ways to fund retrospectively."

He encouraged people to "take action now" and not leave saving plans until the last minute.

This week, the same organisation advised people to check their current accounts and savings accounts carefully to see which will offer a better return on their cash.
