The Annuity Bureau urges women to see a pension calculator adviser

Women should go and see a financial advisor if they have any questions about how to set up their retirement plan, a representative from The Annuity Bureau has suggested.

Gemma Goodman, head of operations at the organisation, made her comments following the publication of Prudential research indicating 22 per cent of females in Britain will be relying on the state pension to fund their retirement.

She urged people to go and see a professional if they are confused about how to begin saving for their retirement.

However, she stressed it is something that should be done sooner rather than later and preferably before a person gets to their 50s or 60s.

"I would strongly advise women - and men - to sit down with your partner and start talking about retirement plans and discuss how you can pool your retirement savings," Ms Goodman remarked.

The Annuity Bureau was established in 1991 and is the chosen retirement service provider for HSBC.
