Consumers could save with current account interest rates, says Gocompare.com

People should think about switching their current accounts in order to save money, according to Gocompare.com.

The price comparison site recently published research showing that people are spending less on luxuries to try to make their cash go further.

John Miles, business development director at Gocompare.com, said: "If you're not comparing your financial products, you may be cutting back on the things you like just to pay for the things you don't."

The company found that 36.5 per cent of consumers have never changed bank account provider, while 59 per cent are cutting down the amount of money they spend on eating out and 44 per cent are buying fewer new clothes.

Mr Miles suggested it could take as little as ten minutes to shop around for the most competitive financial products.

This month, the same organisation found that people are not willing to compromise their level of insurance cover to save cash.
