Increased appetite from fixed rate mortgage lenders, notes moneysupermarket.com

Price comparison website moneysupermarket.com has suggested that mortgage providers appear to have a greater appetite to lend.

This is the view of the company's site editor Clare Francis, who highlighted announcements by firms such as Yorkshire Building Society, NatWest and the Post Office as examples of the market becoming more accessible to consumers.

"Only this week we have seen HSBC reduce the rates on all its 80 per cent LTV mortgage products in a move to further help homeowners," she said.

Her comments were made as part of a response to the Financial Services Authority's (FSA's) Mortgage Market Review, with Ms Francis suggesting the industry body's rumoured regulations on interest-only mortgages could slow down the recovery of the housing finance sector.

The moneysupermarket.com representative claimed this type of change could have "huge ramifications", with many people potentially unable to renew their current deals.

This week, the FSA claimed it is vital the system is reviewed in order to help people make responsible decisions.
