Moneysupermarket.com responds to car insurance for young drivers issue

Young motorists need experience on the road to improve their skills behind the wheel, a source from moneysupermarket.com has claimed.

Steve Sweeney, head of car insurance at the price comparison site, made his comments in response to research by the firm, which showed 56 per cent of Brits do not want teenagers to be banned from driving at night.

He highlighted how this policy would be difficult to enforce and could "hinder" youngsters from gaining the experience they need.

Mr Sweeney said: "Young or newly qualified drivers are more at risk than experienced drivers whenever they get in the car, no matter whether it is night or day."

In his opinion, it is already very hard for young people to find competitively priced car insurance, with males often branded with a boy racer image.

Last month, moneysupermarket.com responded to calls for Graduate Driver Licensing to be introduced by questioning whether such a scheme would have a significant impact on the number of crashes on the roads.
