Confused.com offers sympathy to buyers of insurance for young drivers

Young motorists are seeing their insurance premiums rise at some of the fastest rates, according to new research by Confused.com.

Head of motoring at the company Darren Black noted that it is young males who are seeing the biggest rises in the amount they must pay for cover.

The Confused.com/EMB Car Insurance Price Index found that 17 to 20-year-old men saw their premium go up by 10.9 per cent in the third quarter of the year - the biggest increase of all the demographics.

But Mr Black suggested there are some positives to take from the study, saying: "Whilst it is undoubtedly more bad news for consumers, there is potentially light at the end of the tunnel with the hikes seemingly losing momentum."

This week, a survey by moneysupermarket.com showed that 56 per cent of Brits believe teenagers should not be banned from driving at night.

The poll was carried out following calls for the introduction of Graduate Driver Licensing in the country.
