Residency-pensions calculator link would be good move, says Age UK

Many retirees would benefit from having their entitlement to pensions linked to residency, rather than national insurance contributions, a representative from Age UK has claimed.

Charity director Michelle Mitchell suggested that such a change would be particularly useful for women, who are more likely to take career breaks to bring up children or look after elderly relatives.

Her comments were made after the state announced it intends to alter the way pension provision is dished out, with Ms Mitchell stating that she looks forward to seeing details of the proposals.

"Press reports that the government is proposing to improve the quality and accessibility of pensions will be welcomed by older people across the UK," she added.

In her opinion, the current system is failing too many retirees.

This week, the Department of Work and Pensions published a report regarding how to communicate with people approaching retirement, which indicated that information should be clear and set out exactly how much they will be entitled to in payments.
