Friends Provident supports auto-enrolment to pensions calculator schemes

Auto-enrolment to retirement savings schemes is a positive step, according to an expert at Friends Provident.

Colin Williams, distribution and marketing director at the firm, suggested the proposals will make people's lives easier in terms of pensions.

He praised the government for going ahead with the NEST scheme as planned, as well as for agreeing to conduct a review of the system.

Mr Williams claimed the 2012 start date for the auto-enrolment programme will ensure that both employers and pension providers will begin to plan for it and engage with staff regarding the proposals.

The Friends Provident spokesperson made his comments after the publication of the government-sponsored review of the new system.

"Today's report is a truly helpful starting point to get everyone back to thinking in terms of pensions simplification," he remarked.

It was carried out by a team of experts that included Legal & General's Adrian Boulding, Paul Johnson from Frontier Economics and the Engineering Employers Foundation's David Yeandle.
