NLA claims buy to let mortgage holders will benefit from Green Deal

The government's Green Deal policy could benefit buy to let mortgage holders, according to the National Landlords Association (NLA).

David Salusbury, chairman of the association, stated the NLA has every intention of working alongside the Department for Energy and Climate Change to ensure that environmentally-friendly measures are introduced by landlords.

He described it as an opportunity for buy to let mortgage holders to make improvements to their assets.

Mr Salusbury said: "While we would like to see more detail, the Green Deal should provide landlords with an innovative new avenue to invest in their properties."

The NLA spokesperson pointed out that such improvements could also reduce energy bills for tenants and play a role in the battle against climate change.

Last month, Mr Salusbury praised the secure lending reform private members bill introduced by George Eustace MP, saying it should ensure that landlords are treated more fairly by lenders if it is passed into law.
