Director and founder of the advisory publication Mark Garner explained that this allows individuals to save up money.
However, he noted a consequence of this is that there are not as many properties coming on to the market, which is driving rental prices up.
In his opinion, the next two years could see more and more inflation in the cost of renting a private home, as an increasing number of people decide to pursue such residences.
"With the housing allowance changes coming in next year, I think you will see more and more pressure on the private rented market," added Mr Garner.
The LettingZone source revealed that the difficulty in funding property purchases is affecting landlords as well, with this being another contributing factor in the shortage of supply of homes to rent.
