Halifax insurance urges sports fans to cover up

Halifax insurance has advised travelling sports fans to make sure they have adequate travel insurance.

With the British Lions visiting New Zealand later this summer, thousands of fans are expected to make the trip to a country that offers more bungie jumps, jet boat rides and skydiving trips than most places in the world.

As a result supporters are being urged to make sure they are covered for all eventualities including illness, injury, and loss of match tickets.

"It is common for sports fans to let their enthusiasm get the better of them and dash off with passport in hand without checking their insurance," advised David Norton, head of marketing at Halifax General Insurance.

"But many could suffer a worse disaster than a lost match if they don't have adequate cover."
