Aviva suggests pensions calculator info should be more accessible

A source from Aviva has noted that much of the information on the market relating to retirement planning is not written in an accessible way.

Paul Goodwin, head of pensions at the financial services provider, pointed out that it is a complex topic, but claimed that barriers are put up between the consumer and the industry if communication is not effective.

"Being a heavily regulated industry we produce an awful lot of compliance material, but compliance doesn't necessarily mean that it has been produced in a way which is customer friendly," he said.

In his opinion, it is not just one age group that is not receiving enough valuable guidance, since the problem is commonplace across the board.

Mr Goodwin suggested that the answer lies in translating information into language people can understand.

Last week, Oddfollows published a report called Mind the Gap - The Pensions Funding and Knowledge Crisis, which indicated that 55 to 65-year-olds are lacking in knowledge regarding their own retirement finances.
