Abbey credit card extends interest free period

One Abbey credit card scheme has been made more attractive.

The interest free period on Abbey's Shopping credit card is being extended from six to nine months.

The move comes in spite of recent predictions that interest free offers are set to be scaled down over the coming months, as their cost to card providers rises.

The card's new nine month long interest free period is applicable to all retail purchases. At the end of the interest free period the rate will rise to a typical 15.9 per cent APR.

Commenting on the changes an Abbey spokesperson said: "The card is good for customers who are planning a big purchase this summer, possibly moving home, or for a family holiday, a wedding or for people who simply want to treat themselves.

"The card is also useful for people who are just looking for a better deal on their credit card as they will benefit from not paying any interest on their purchases for the extended nine month period."
