People with car insurance for young drivers should be wary of ice, says AA

AA Insurance has advised motorists to be extra careful in the current icy conditions, as the driving terrain can lead to more collisions.

Simon Douglas, director of the company, pointed out that driving slowly tends to put people at less risk of bumping another car or any other object.

He said: "While hitting other cars is by far the most common, also high on the list of mishaps is striking snow-covered kerbs."

Mr Douglas went on to reveal that motorists ringing in to the firm's call centre have made claims for colliding with all sorts of things, such as grass embankments, fences, hedges, telegraph poles and even a wild boar.

The AA Insurance spokesperson noted that the damage on a car will usually be less serious if a person hits something at a low speed.

BBC Weather predicts that the weekend will bring slightly warmer weather, but the cold snap could return next week.
