Insurance for young drivers customers offered advice by Direct Line

Direct Line has encouraged motorists to only use snow tyres in wintry conditions and take care when having them fitted.

Andy Goldby, director of underwriting at the company, called on consumers to advise their insurance providers if they are going to make a change to their vehicle in this way.

He said: "While we do not increase or decrease premiums for the fitting of snow tyres, we would strongly recommend that they are installed by an expert."

Mr Goldby's remarks were made after Direct Line unveiled a series of tips regarding this type of work.

The organisation recommended that people contact their cover provider if they buy snow tyres of a different style to the ones they originally had, since this can count as a modification to the vehicle and affect the premium required.

Last month, the brand encouraged consumers to carry out preventative maintenance work on their home to avoid problems during periods of cold weather.
